Doctor yourself
There was a time when I sewed clothes for the children and for myself. I spread out the fabric on the carpet to pin the patterns on. It happened once that I had apparently lost a pin, which had hidden itself in the carpet. I always wear socks in the house and on this Sunday morning when I was on duty, I walked on the carpet in my stocking feet. Ouch. The lost pin pricked my foot and broke in half. One half had penetrated deep into the sole of my foot. A slight panic struck. Imagine: now I had to go to the GP myself as the doctor on duty to have that pin removed from my foot. Never! Walking on my heels, I hobbled to the shed and rummaged through the toolbox. I found a handy pair of combination pliers. With the pliers I applied pressure to the skin so that I could just grab a point of the pin, and pulled it out. I felt like a real do-it-yourselfer.
